Panama Papers: One of the World's Biggest Data Leaks will be Searchable

Panama Papers(https://panamapapers.icij.org ) is about to release a second batch of documents regarding hundreds of thousands of offshore entities as part of its ongoing Panama Papers investigation, after the first round of leaked documents , released earlier this month, brought the dark financial practices of the world's elite to light, exposing the tax shelters of 140 politicians and public figures, including some powerful Nigerians.
The documents will be released on May 9, with basic corporate information on more than 200,000 offshore entities made available in a searchable database.
The Panama Papers label refers to more than 11 million legal and financial records of the world's power elite taken from Panama-based law firm, Mossack Fonseca (www.mossfon.com) . The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists-ICIJ (www.icij.org)  , a German newspaper and other news groups spent more than a year scrutinising these records.

ICIJ said that the second batch will not include a "Data Dump" of the original documents or the large-scale release of personal data, but it will be the largest ever release of secret offshore companies and the people behind them."

Just Bought A Samsung Galaxy S7? Default Settings You Should Change Right Away

After going through the basic setup process of your new Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge, there are a few more things you should do to get the most out of the device. Here are nine settings you should change:

Theme

With just a few taps, you can preview and apply themes built by Samsung and fellow Galaxy users alike. Themes can change everything from the font used on your device, to app icons for all pre-installed applications. There are two methods to get to Samsung's theme store. The quickest is to long-press on the home screen, then tap on Themes. Alternatively, you can open the Settings app then go to Themes.

Disable Flipboard Briefing

If you find yourself accidentally accessing the briefing pane, or just flat out not using it, you can disable the Flipboard briefing by long-pressing on the home screen, then swiping to the right until the Briefing pane is visible, and slide the switch to the Off position.

App Grid Size

Want more or less apps on the home screens of your device? Long press on the home screen and select Screen Grid. You can then pick from a 4x4, 4x5 or 5x5 grid of app icons.Whatever change to the grid you make on the home screen will carry over to the app drawer.

Disable Always-On Display

The S7's always-on display can be distracting, and while it does not have a dramatic impact on overall battery life, it still has an impact.  To disable the new feature and go back to checking time the old fashioned way on your smartphone, open the Settings app, then go to Display and wallpaper > Always On Display and turn it off. Or if you do like the feature, this screen is where you go to customize its overall look and behaviour.

Easily Locate Settings

Navigating through the Settings app for something you frequently access can be a hassle. Luckily, Samsung lets you add quick settings to the top of the Settings screen with just a few taps.

Open the Settings app, then select Tap here to edit quick settings. You can select up to nine different settings shortcuts, which will then be placed at the top of the Settings app for easy access in the future.

Lock Screen App Shortcuts

You can place two app icons on the lock screen of your Galaxy device for quick access to either app. To change either app, or disable them altogether, go to Settings > Lock screen and security > Info and app shortcuts > App shortcuts. Select the shortcut to change and select the app you want to use, or turn the shortcut off.

Install Camera Modes

By using modes you can create animated GIFs, take better food shots, or create hyperlapse videos without much fuss.

In the Camera app,  tap on the Mode button followed by the Download link at the top of the screen. A rather long list of modes will populate, ready for installation. Installation only takes a few seconds, after which you can experiment with the various modes and improve upon your smartphone photography skills.

Remove Unwanted Apps

With the S7, you can at turn off unwanted apps and remove them from your home screen and app drawer. When in the app drawer, tap on the Edit button and then start picking off unnecessary apps one by one by tapping on the "-" icon. A prompt will alert you when an app can only be turned off rather than uninstalled.

Instagram: Top Tips for Photo Enthusiasts

Instead of snapping vague pictures with friends, why not create mind-blowing pics on instagram(www.instagram.com) .Whether you are an old pro  or just started gramming, these  tips could make your photos stand out and at least get you a like or two more than you might have gotten before.

Manage Multiple Accounts
Instagram finally added the ability to manage multiple accounts. You can switch between up to five accounts without the laborious process of logging out and then back in. Go to your profile > Gear Icon > Add Account, and enter the user name and password of an additional account. To switch between them, go to your profile page, tap your user name at the top of the screen, and select the account you wish to view.

Video Killed the Vine Star

Is anybody watching? Likes are nice but they are not a count of how many people have seen your Instagram video. Instagram recently added view counts so you will know just how many people have seen your vacation videos.. To see your likes, tap Views.

Spot and Shop

Ever see something on Instagram and you just want to buy it right there? Instagram has made it possible for people to add Shop Now buttons.

Press Pause

You can fit so much into an Instagram video, but you are probably looking at Instagram on your phone, so you have to be selective about how you use your bandwidth. Luckily, Instagram lets you opt not to have Instagram preload videos over mobile connections. On mobile, go to your profile, select the Gear (iOS) or hamburger (Android) icon on the top right, select Cellular Data Use, and choose Use Less Data.

Toying Around

Have you seen those photographs where the real world looks like an adorable miniature one? You can do that! The tilt shift feature is a shortcut to getting a look similar to the ones provided by fancy lenses. Start with an image, choose a filter, then tap the wrench icon at the bottom of the image. Slide right to find Tilt Shift and  then choose radial or linear, whichever looks best on your photo and select the checkmark to save.

Get the Lux Look

If your photos are underexposed, they will look the poorer for it. Make them Lux. Once your photo is taken, tap the sun symbol and then use the slider that appears to adjust the saturation of the photo. (This does not yet work for the Windows Phone version, just iOS and Android.)

Resolve Border Disputes
Do not let borders come between you and the perfect shot. To add a little something extra to your filtered photos, tap the filter you used a second time and then tap the Border icon on the right. If you decide against the border, just tap it again. Save by selecting the checkmark.

Going Off Road

You are not limited to just using Instagram as an app on your phone. Access your Instagram profile on the Web by going to Instagram.com and signing in. You will not be able to upload or edit photos but you can browse your feed, like and comment on photos, and search for people, places, and hashtags online.

Torch the Trolls

If there is a not-so-nice comment you do not want under your gram, get rid of it. For iOS users, tap Comment, then swipe left over the one you want to delete. For Android, tap Comment under the photo and then tap the one you want to delete. On both platforms, you can also report the comment as abuse, if necessary.

Privacy, Please

It might seem like the point of Instagram is to share your photos with the world. But if you would prefer that only a select few can see your brunch shots or sunset snaps, you can make your account private. On your profile page, tap the gear icon on the top right, look for "Private Account," and toggle it on. You will then get an alert if someone wants to follow you, much like a Facebook friend request.

GSM Subscriber Base Drops to 148.6m

Nigeria’s Global System For Mobile Communication ( GSM) subscribers  which had peaked at almost 150 million in November last year, dropped to 148.6 million by end of the year. However, on a year-on-year basis the industry subscriber base rose by about 8.9 per cent from 136.6 million in December 2014 to 148.6 million in December 2015, while MTN still dominated market share.

A report from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), indicated that the decline in the fourth quarter of the year which represented a reversal of third quarter growth was due to declines in MTN subscriber base from 62.4 million to 61.2 million and Etisalat from 23.4 million to 22.1 million. Globacom and Airtel witnessed increases in their number of subscribers.

The total number of subscribers has increased rapidly over the previous decade, but in recent years of the second decade in the life of the industry in Nigeria a lower growth rate have been recorded, possibly as market penetration is already high, which leaves less room for large expansion.

The report also indicated that 2015 was a more active year for porting activities than 2014, as total incoming porting increased by 42.88 per cent to 212,401 from 148,652.This was driven to a large extent by Etisalat, who gained 137,466 incoming porters in 2015 compared to 69,364 in 2014, an increase of 98.18 per cent.

On the other hand outgoing porting activity increased by 50.38 per cent to 219,559 from 145,998 between 2014 and 2015.This increase was driven mainly by MTN which lost 125,515 porters in 2015 compared to 67,039 in 2014, an increase of 87.23 per cent. Airtel also lost substantially more porters in 2015 at a total 41,527 compared to compared to 25,883 in 2014, an increase of 60.44 per cent.

Porting activities refer to the transfer of subscribers to different network carriers, where incoming porting activities refer to those subscribers that have joined a network, whilst outgoing porting activities refer to those who left a network carrier.

The report also indicated that GSM internet subscriptions followed similar trend as telephony, except that a real drop below previous quarter was recorded. Internet subscription as at end of fourth quarter was 97.03 million as against 97.06 million in the third quarter.

The figures had gone up to 97.5 million in November before dropping to 97.03 million in December 2015, again, due to a decline in subscriptions in MTN though all other providers witnessed a rise in internet subscriptions.

The telecommunications sector contributed N 1.65 trillion or 8.88 per cent to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product, GDP, in the final quarter of 2015, a slight increase relative to the 8.76 per cent contribution recorded in the same quarter of the previous year.

The fourth quarter 2015 sector contribution to GDP is also higher than the contribution of 7.71 per cent recorded in the third quarter, but this is to a large extent due to different seasonal patterns of the telecommunications sector and whole economy.
