Windows Phone Market Share Declines Further

In spite of the global increase in smartphone sales, which saw a tremendeous demand for brands such as Samsung, Apple and China’s Xiaomi, Microsoft’s market share has continued to drop.

In a recent report by Gartner  , Microsoft did not make the first top five brands in global smartphone sales, despite the launch of the 650 and the 950 phones. In all, just 2.4 million units running the OS were sold, down from 8.27 million about a year ago as the market reached a record 349 million units for the first quarter of 2016. The company’s share then, was just 0.7 percent of all phones sold.

Some days ago, Microsoft revealed its intentions to   to sell off its  feature phone division , without mentioning if it will continue with the manufacturing of Lumia phones.

However, Blackberry seems to be a worse performer than Microsoft, by dropping from 0.4 percent market share to 0.2 percent market share. iOS dropped from 17.9 percent to 14.8 percent, while Android saw a rise from 78.8 percent to 84.1 percent with a total of 293.7 million units in sales.
